Wyassup Lake, CT

Wyassup Lake
A beautiful paddle on Wyassup Lake two and a half miles north of North Stonington, Connecticut. Heading north on Wyassup Road, turn left onto Wyassup Lake Road and go about a half mile. The launch site and parking lot is on the right. In the 60's my family called this access area "Bumpity Beach" due to the gravel and potholes. It's now nicely paved and well-maintained with a clean port-a-potty.
We had a perfect day for our paddle: warm sun and cool air. Wyassup Lake is not large, but contains an astonishing variety of microclimates. The middle part of the lake can be wet and chilly with high winds and choppy waves, while in the sheltered coves the water is completely still and warm in the sun. The four small wooded islands in the middle of the lake add another dimension to explore.
